Broad Street
Green Map: This project,
completed in 2001, was inspired by one of the WVIA's long-time
members, W. Thayer Chase. A distinguished landscape architect, Chase
designed the landscaping of the award-winning Merritt Parkway in
Connecticut. For many years, Chase advocated that a map of
Wethersfield's "Broad Street Green" be developed which
would educate visitors and residents about the Green's value and
beauty.
The preservation, enhancement and
appreciation of the Green is a major WVIA objective. Highlighted on
resultant map are the Green's trees (many varieties are identified),
houses (examples of over 300 years of American architecture are
featured), and the Green's history (from pre-Revolutionary times to
the present). This project was funded by the WVIA and by generous
private contributions from: Donna and Paul Courchaine, Lisa and
William Leonard, and the Wethersfield Beautification Trust.
These free, unmounted maps are
available at many locations throughout town including:
The Wethersfield Historical
Society, 150 Main Street,
The Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, 200 Main Street, or
Contact the WVIA for a copy.
In addition, mounted, framed
copies of the map are available for sale at The House of Images, 147
