Business Beautification Award: Every year the WVIA presents its "Beautification Award" to a business in town that has beautified its property or buildings. In so doing, the WVIA seeks to both honor the recipient as well as point out to other businesses what we consider to be good design and construction worthy of emulation.
The honored company's name is added to an elegant plaque which was carved for this purpose by the Wethersfield Men's Woodworking Club. The wood of the plaque is from the famous "Old Elm" which once stood on the Broad Street Green and was in its time the largest elm in the United States. The WVIA plaque is displayed on the premises of the award recipient for a period of one year. Recent recipients have included Blades salon; Comstock Ferre Company;
Jensen and Miller; Cross Automotive and D'Esopo.

Hubbard House Street Signs:
Albert Hubbard built about 240 homes on about 35 acres in Wethersfield's
old village in the 1920's. One of his legacies was the creation and placement of 20 specially designed street signs around 1926. Some 70 years later, in one of its most ambitious efforts, the WVIA led effort to restore the worn, damaged and missing "Hubbard House" street signs.

Broad Street Green Map:
This project, completed in 2001, was inspired by one of the WVIA's
long-time members, W. Thayer Chase. A distinguished landscape
architect, Chase designed the landscaping of the award-winning
Merritt Parkway in Connecticut. For many years, Chase advocated
that a map of Wethersfield's "Broad Street Green" be
developed which would educate visitors and residents about the
Green's value and beauty.
